Run & Ride for Reading eV organized the 7th annual “Leselauf,” (Read run) a charity run to support literacy and education for children and young adults in Cologne on Thursday, June 29.
The “run” consisted of a cycling round of about 18 kilometers from the Sportpark Müngersdorf to the Cologne Cathedral and back, as well as a run of 5 or 10 kilometers (depending on preference) through the RheinEnergieSTADION and the Sportpark Müngersdorf. The cycle race started as scheduled at 6.00 pm. The run was scheduled at 7.00 pm, however because of heavy rain it was delayed for about 40 minutes.
As a patron of education and academic integrity, PlagScan participated in supporting this event. Jorge and Markus represented the company on bicycles, after which Markus, who still had plenty of energy left, decided to join Sasho, Davide, Johannes and Koray on the run.
Each participant received a chip that measured the time of their run. Even though the Leselauf empathized fun and positive spirit, the organizers still wanted to honor the scores of the participants with the best performance in the following sections:
- 1st to 3rd place for women and men over 5 and 10 kilometers
- 1st place for girls/boys under 16 years (born in or after year 2001) above 5 and 10 kilometers
- the fastest team over 5 and 10 kilometers
- biggest team
The proceeds of the Leselauf supports reading clubs at schools in the Cologne-Bonn area. This year, 17 new reading clubs have been opened in schools.
